Thursday, February 19, 2004 (This morning I called: (212))

This morning I called:

(212) VOTE NYC

(212) 797-8800

(212) 886-3800

While I did register to vote in NY in October of 2003, just shy of 4 weeks before the local elections in November, I showed up at my local polling place & it was a no-go. OK, so maybe I didn’t register soon enough. With the primaries in NY approaching (March 2) I wanted to make sure I was able to cast my ballot. After each operator routed my calls to each of the 3 numbers above, it’s been determined: my “registration didn’t stick” Apparently, you’ve got to REALLY want to vote, and register several times, several months in advance to be eligible.

I’m thinking, well – perhaps I’m still registered in the keystone state, now the search for a PA voter info phone number ensues. I figure, if I can still vote there, I’ll cast my primary ballot in Philadelphia (April 27), then re-register to vote in NY for the presidential election.

I wonder how long it takes to get a gun in NY, I’m guessing 8-10 days if I take the legal route. Just in time for the primaries.

Update – to find out if you’re registered to vote in Philadelphia county, and where to vote if you are, call (215) 686-3460.
