Tuesday, October 25, 2005 (A History of Violence)
Despite it’s fresh rating of 85% on rotten tomatoes, A History of Violence is so far over the top, it ends up at the bottom.
The scenes of murder & mayhem make up the films darker half, which is way more fun and actually more believable than it’s other half. For the first 40 minutes, the all American family theme is crammed so far down your throat you can taste your own bile. Thankfully the taste of bile on the backs of your teeth make History of Violence seem a little less awful.
Wait for this one on DVD if you see it at all. Disappointingly, this may be one of the better ones in theatres right now.

Ah Billy, it seems I always disagree with you. I thought this was a very good movie. The over the top family life was a juxtaposition with the violence or even it’s paradox. Both were purposely over the top, and regardless of the title of the movie, less about what is really going on here. Overall the movie was about unfortunate events, character relations, person attempts to change one’s profile, and so on.
Rent that DVD kid and give it another chance.

Bill,
I totally agree. George and I actually walked out of the movie! It was so predictable. For all of you who haven’t seen the movie, I will give you a breif synopsis.
Old gangster pals find man. Man kills them. Oh, no…more gangster men come after him and family. Man kills them! More gangsters come and take man to see maffia boss. I won’t spoil the ending.
The acting was so horrible in this movie. That is hard for me to say considering how I loved Viggo in LOTR.
In the scene with the maffia boss, I swore I was watching a bad SNL skit.
George has officially revoked my lisence to pick what movie to see ever again.
