Thursday, June 15, 2006 (iTunes RSS)
Had I known that
(a tag within each
tag in an RSS feed) stands for “Globally Unique Identifier”, I would have began my modifications there while trying to resolve why iTunes was ignoring a bunch of
tags.
Instead, I started with
,
and
as all possibilities. It turns out, every tag in each
can be identical with the exception of
. If iTunes encounters a duplicate
it will ignore the
’s enclosure. iTunes thinks it has encountered a duplicate! Silly iTunes it’s not a duplicate, it’s just an error by the coder!
The lesson here is to always use unique
’s and to not use those white ear buds that came with your ipod. Especially on subways. Throw those things out.
You can learn this faster by validating RSS feeds early on and familiarizing yourself with the podcasting technical specs.
