Goofy Vs. Regular July 7, 2005 6 comments

We launched a site for an upcoming contest called Goofy Vs. Regular. What do you think? Vote for goofy when you get there.

Update- You might see this posted on (the recently un-designed) Hot Crew:

Another showdown between Goofy & Regular. We loaded this one up w/ activities for the kids and technology for the nerds. Watch Goofy & Regular riders battle it out right on the site by selecting who you think will win (as of this post, I’m happy to point out that Goofy leads with 53% of the vote). Lay down the smack on each & every rider with your gravatar lighting up the comments. Then our personal favorite, rate your rider on a scale of 1-10 to watch those weighted lists grow & shrink! A visual representation of who you, the user, thinks will dominate the contest.

First earthquake ever June 16, 2005 13 comments

It started out tiny, with just the floor vibrating then seemed to work it’s way up through my chair & desk. It then layed low for a minute, and then rocked everything for a few seconds. Randy ran like a girlie man to stand in the doorway, supposedly the safest spot in an earthquake. But then he was told that’s a rumor, and doorways aren’t safe at all. We all poured out into the hallway as it stopped. Guess we’ll have to find out the correct earthquake brotocol (californian for ‘protocol’) to follow. Turns out - Doorways are only safe if you live or work in a clay hut.

Susan felt Saturdays’ quake, While I heard some noise but felt nothing. Today’s was a 5.3 with a 2.0 10 minutes earlier in Newport Beach.

Jody from back east was just here too, had to have been on the 405 north at the time and now has a real life Californian experience under his belt.

During the driving test, the examiner will note:

  1. When leaving the curb, do you use your mirrors and turn your head and look back for passing cars?
  2. Do you use the gas pedal, brake, steering wheel (hands on opposite sides), and other controls correctly?
  3. Do you use the proper lane? Do you signal, turn your head and look back before pulling away from the curb or when you change lanes?

It took me two tries to get my first license in 1994. I’m aiming to do it on my first try in 2006.

Now that I no longer share living space with multiple dirty dudes, I can subscribe to a couple of magazines and actually expect to read them. I’ve started a Wired subscription to fill my immediate print needs, but additions to the small list of ones I’m contemplating are needed. What do you suggest?

  3. How’s the current crop of mac mags?

The Hotcrew updates May 13, 2005 19 comments

Update on thehotcrew, the blog of Sole Technology’s web department; welcoming me to my new gig, with some links to our recent work. It’s been kick ass so far. Run like a web dev company (but a quarter of the size) we’re really allowed to pursue what we think will work on the web tech-wise, design-wise & content-wise.

Btw - I know everyone hates baseball, but let me ask you, “The Yankees are the best team in baseball” - Is this statement a fact or an opinion?

The car we went with May 2, 2005 3 comments

Suzuki usually makes motorcycles & lawnmowers, so they had this on sale:

Car

My first new car ever, I still don’t have a driver’s license, and I haven’t driven since 1997. Those cars sites kicked ass, (esp. http://carbuyingtips.com) we went in there fully prepared, and left completely satisfied.

Prepare for another stretch August 5, 2002

Prepare for another stretch of zero updates as I head to Los Angeles for the next 9 days… I managed to actually get an update done before I depart, titled:

Macworld NY wasn’t the highlight of my 4 day excursion in late July
