In Google labs we have Living Stories “an experiment in presenting news, one designed specifically for the online environment…” Interesting. I recall being excited about Wikipedia’s News coverage, take the entry on Hurricane Katrina for example. The format steps away from the ‘old fashioned’ model of news as a series of historic articles and stepped into the future of news as a single, always evolving, article. Living Stories’ The War in Afghanistan for example. The future is now.

NPR visits a parking garage exhibit at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

So now that Oink is gone and the record industry got back those 180,000 people, will we see sales increase over the next couple of weeks? I’m personally all for the argument that downloading music increases the chances of me making a purchase in the future. Wether it be opening my pocket to see the band live, purchasing their product, and/or spreading the word to others who would do the same.

In the news:

OiNK Website Shutdown – BBC video on You Tube

Huge pirate music site shut down – BBC News
The BBC quotes a police spokesperson:

“This extremely lucrative and creative scheme consisted of a private file-sharing website being set up.”

Creative scheme? Bit Torrent is a “creative scheme”, created by Oink? Are the police just trying to put this into news friendly terms? Or do they seriously misunderstand the site they’ve been investigating for the past 2 years?

Interview with Oink web host
“We’re just hoping they return our 30,000 euro servers as soon as possible.”

Oink Busted
“Users were, ‘potentially evading licence fees, subscription fees to digital services…’” “Potentially? So now they’re nailing people for something they might, or might not, do.”

OiNK Admin Released From Custody
“More interesting perhaps, how did they gain access to the OiNK domain, and why are they allowed to spread this propaganda? They are not a law-enforcement agency.”

Defending the Pig – Oink Croaks
DJ Rupture on Oink and why it’s good for music.

OiNK Database Didn’t ‘Self Destruct’, Wasn’t Encrypted But Users Safe?
“Following the raid at OiNK, many of the 180,000 members are very concerned about what’s happening with their details. The rumor: The OiNK database was encrypted and self-destructed. The truth: It wasn’t and it didn’t but ex-users still might be safe.” … “the logs we store aren’t enough to incriminate users.”

Alan Ellis (Oink) answers some questions
It’s great that after all this, he still made himself available to the users, and was able to do so.

I need some new headphones. The $10 pair I bought on the streets of Bushwick three years ago have finally been laid to rest. Any suggestions? I think I’m ready to get a somewhat real pair, but the further south of $100 the better.

Just because I was there, I gave a quick listen to a pair of BOSE “TriPort” in Target that were super flexible, felt great, and sounded even better, but at $150 they’re over my budget. I want something substantial too, ear buds are out of the question, but still somewhat portable & compact. Any suggestions?

BOSE TriPort, cheaper online, naturally:

Update: Thanks for the comments & suggestions, I was checking out some phones with my cousin who works in the acoustical engineering field (his screen name even mentions his hatred for BOSE). His favorite set is a Grado, which apparently are open element, so people can hear what you’re listening to, and you can hear them. Fine for home listening, but not ideal for an office setting.

He mentioned too that the Grado’s are what most audiophile reviewers use as reference to compare other products to. Clearly a player in the market, but again, not ideal for office use.

Sennheiser’s do have models with noise cancellation, and can be found much cheaper on sites other than their own.
