Mark has a couple, quick lines in tomorrow nights Law & Order SVU episode titled Clock. He’s the goof in the middle right of this screengrab from the episode preview. Im assuming these are his first lines in a national program and consist of the following:
“like what”
“yeah? we already do that ”
“and electing a little girl like you is gonna get them to do that?”
It starts at 10pm, Tuesday, on NBC.

“After 149 games, 91 victories and a summer of dominance, the time has come for them to be the team on top. In the second season of the Minaya-Willie Randolph regime, the Mets have taken the first step toward a possible return to the World Series and maybe even a rematch with the Yankees.” - Mets.com
I didn’t know a rematch with the Yankees was part of their ten year plan. I doubt anyone other than the media would throw that nugget in there; Sure it’d be fun, but let’s wait till next year for a subway series rematch. Luckily for me, we have both the Padres and Dodgers battling for the West & Wild Card, it’s only a matter of time before NY heads out here.
Tonight at 9 (Mon, July 24) is the premier of Tabloid Wars, a new show on Bravo. My sister’s boyfriend and all around great guy, Brian McCarthy, worked extensively on this surefire blockbuster of a television show. I saw some early rough cuts (I am near Hollywood after all) awhile back, and it’s certainly great television.
Generally “Reality TV” isn’t nearly as real as “Tabloid Wars” and if you love documentary style, behind the scenes action as much as I do, you’ll thoroughly enjoy seeing how news stories unfold into tomorrow’s newspaper. While the show follows the Daily News, I have some fond memories of the NY Post (great sports section) and still can’t set foot on any NY train without first grabbing the Post and a 50 cent cup of coffee (one of several activities I miss dearly). This is definately a unique perspective on a city that is always in the limelight. Anyway, it’s a fabulous show and if you get a chance, tune in.
I never found episode two, so I’ll jump right to three. This time it’s a 39 MB download - kids-on-deck-03.mov.
Awhile ago I wrote about my brother Mark landing his first real television gig on a Yankees kids show called “Kids on Deck“. The first episode aired a couple months ago, but I haven’t been able to see it until now. If you’re in the east coast tri-state area, or get the YES network on satellite tv, check out the show on Sunday mornings.
Here’s the edited version of the first episode, containing only the intro & Marks part (kids on Deck, episode one 58 MB, or click on the image to download the video). Here he is on Flickr, wearing his true colors at last nights Met game. God, I’m such a jock.
Listen for how many times he says “sweet” and my favorite, “This is the biggest hat everrrrr”. Well, he doesn’t stretch out the word “ever” but it’s still pretty amusing. Nice work mark. For all you Yankee fans, know that you’ve been infiltrated!
The site that employed me throughout most of my stretch in NYC recently launched. We were into Moveable Type at the time, so the entire thing is managed using MT, Which I haven’t touched since Digitalthread, over a year ago. Lots of shared templates & multiple blogs make up the site. MT works, but if we could do it all again, I’d go WordPress all the way (Only because I have not the knowledge to build a CMS from the ground up, but can hack my way through an existing platform). You’ll notice it doesn’t quite validate, but you also won’t find any tables. Anyway, there is lots of good content up in there, so check out Digitalthread & thanks for all that steady work Roger!
The YES Network is a tri-state (ny, conn, nj) area cable channel started as a showcase for the NY Yankees; it caused a stir back in the day, because all of a sudden Yankee fans had to pay to see yankee games. My youngest brother (at 18) Mark, just landed a gig hosting a Kids TV show on YES called “Kids on Deck”. I’m not sure when it starts, I’m assuming mid May because of this old press release, but there’ll be 10 episodes with the possibility of more.
I remember coming across the show in the past, the old host (seen in the photo) looks kinda like Hillary Duff and yes that’s Willie Randolph, still in Yankee garb. These people need to update their site. Mark’s heading to Florida (spring training) this Monday & at some point it’ll bring him to San Diego & the All Star game as well. Congrats to broseph on the gig, he’s pretty excited, him being a baseball (Met) fanatic for quite some time. Tell A-Rod & Jeter I still don’t like them.
So if you live in the east, or get DirecTV, watch for him hammin’ it up w/future hall of famers. I’m gonna try to get him to blog about the experience too, we’ll see what happens.
Sure it’s a tiny example of this new fangled mashup thing, but I’m diggin this combo of google maps and Sapranos season five data. Even more motivating is how the majority of it’s users don’t get there via del.icio.us or Tech Crunch. Maybe I just don’t venture outside the webdevosphere enough to see little things like this, but I’m thankful that this application of data exists in such a real world scenario.
Incidentally, this is the first time I noticed Tony traveled all the way up to Shea stadium in Queens. I’ve got four days to watch most of season four and all of season five before Sunday nights premiere.
Met fans (and baseball fans) rejoice! Angels defeated the Yankees in the American league division series. We all know that real baseball is played in the national league but still - this could be something big. The decline of a dynasty as it slips into anonymity. We’ll see all you yankee bandwagoners late september next year, or will you even bother? I hope not.
I’m heading to NY tonight via Jet Blue and just checked in online. They asked me if my bag contained any hazardous materials, providing a handy unordered list of possible items that may qualify as hazardous, I disregarded the list and selected NO. I was then presented my boarding pass in PDF format. It was that simple. The next step is to drop my non-carry on luggage at a designated counter and proceed right to security. I’m wondering, do they somehow have MORE info on me since I’ve done nearly everything online? They’ve had at least a month to examine the data I gave them when purchasing the ticket. Name, address, CC info. Did I give them my social security number? Have they already ran my name against the databases of suspect fliers? Did I make it easier to do so? Is it just as easy if I bought my ticket old school style; in person and perhaps mere hours before my flight?
